Building the Most Accurate Blackjack Strategy Tool
We combine rigorous mathematical analysis with user-friendly design to help players understand and apply optimal blackjack strategy.
Our Mission
Blackjack Helper exists to democratize access to mathematically optimal blackjack strategy. We believe every player deserves free access to the same accurate information that was previously only available in expensive books or through complex software. Our goal is education: helping players understand why certain plays are optimal, not just what to do.
Our Expertise
Our recommendations are grounded in decades of academic research and mathematical analysis.
Mathematical Foundation
Our strategy calculations are based on combinatorial analysis and probability theory, the same mathematical principles used by gaming mathematicians and casino consultants worldwide.
Academic Research
Our algorithms implement findings from peer-reviewed research on optimal blackjack play, including the foundational work of Edward O. Thorp's 'Beat the Dealer' (1962) and subsequent academic studies.
Verified Accuracy
Our basic strategy recommendations align with industry-standard optimal play charts used by professional gamblers and verified through Monte Carlo simulations of millions of hands.
Transparent Methodology
We openly document our calculation methods and source our mathematical claims. Users can verify our recommendations against published optimal strategy charts.
Our Calculation Methodology
Every recommendation we make follows a rigorous mathematical process.
Hand Analysis
We calculate all possible player hand values and identify whether the hand is hard, soft, or a pair, which determines which strategy table applies.
Probability Mapping
Using the dealer's upcard, we compute the probability distribution of dealer outcomes (bust, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21) based on the specific rules in play.
Expected Value Calculation
For each possible player action (hit, stand, double, split, surrender), we calculate the expected value by summing probabilities multiplied by outcomes.
Optimal Action Selection
The action with the highest expected value (or least negative EV) is recommended. This accounts for whether the dealer hits or stands on soft 17, whether surrender is offered, and which hands you are allowed to double.
Academic Sources & References
Our strategy recommendations are based on the following foundational works in blackjack mathematics.
Beat the Dealer
Edward O. Thorp (1962)
The foundational text on blackjack mathematics that first proved the game could be beaten through card counting and optimal strategy.
The Theory of Blackjack
Peter A. Griffin (1979)
Academic analysis of blackjack mathematics, including detailed expected value calculations and strategy derivations.
Blackjack Attack
Don Schlesinger (1997)
Comprehensive analysis of playing and betting strategies, including the widely-used 'Illustrious 18' and 'Fab 4' surrender indices.
Casino Game Mathematics
Eliot Jacobson, Ph.D.
Modern academic research on casino game analysis and optimal play strategies.
Our Commitment to Accuracy
All basic strategy recommendations verified against published optimal play charts
Rule variations (decks, S17/H17, DAS, etc.) correctly factored into calculations
Expected value calculations based on combinatorial analysis, not approximations
Regular updates to incorporate new research and user feedback
Educational Purpose
Blackjack Helper is an educational tool designed to help players understand optimal blackjack strategy. We do not guarantee winnings, and all probability calculations are theoretical. Actual casino results may vary.
